Snow Beach. Killington Snow Report Friday March 23
Freeriding, Killington, Skiing, Snow Report, Snowboarding, UncategorizedAnother bluebird day, cooler with temps near 60 and breezy
WOW! They’re may not be a lot of snow, but Superstar and Skyelark are skiing well. Upper bittersweet that was being groomed and pushed together fell as a casualty of this weeks warm weather. Superstar is connected top-to-bottom, but there is a breach getting off the SS quad and heading there. The traverse at the top of the headwall is starting to wear thin too. There’s also a breach at the bottom of Skyelark>Bitter getting back to the chair.
There is a groomer sitting up top the SS headwall, so I would have to guess that they’ll push snow together to fix that breach and the traverse getting there as well as that breach at the bottom. No more powder skis today and surfing around on the mushy, cruddy and even corn on Skyelark and Bitter sweet for me today. It was mogul time! There are some great lines on Superstar! I prefer to ski the headwall, ski the corn on the skiers right and then ski the tighter lines on skiers right on the lower headwall. Actually, that has been my game plan is skiing Superstar for the last 15 yrs or so.
I skied seven Superstars and three Skyelarks. Lower Skyelark is skiing VERY WELL too. Probably better than SS, but of course it’s shorter. It sure was fun skiing some old school moguls under the sun this afternoon. I didn’t ski over at Bear so I cant comment on that, but I heard from others that did saying that the breach at the top has grown further and the moguls are starting to get deep with skier traffic, but the lines go way, way longer than SS
Remember to keep your hands out, reach for the back side of the mogul and have a strong lower back to prevent from crouching or bucking. Remember that with spring moguls absorption is more important than extension, but with out extension, you cant absorb. Trust your turns, trust your ski tip and above all, trust yourself. Have fun bashing bumps this weekend and have fun out there!
Jonathan Celauro started skiing when he was four and still hasn't quite figured it out yet. After college, he moved to Killington and now 16 yrs later, each comprised of 100+ day ski seasons, he's still trying to grasp the whole skiing concept. At this point he imagines his best option is to just go with the flow. "I still find myself dreaming of big mountain lines and deep powder snow." J.C. Shop Our Online Store
