I always find the transformation Superstar takes over the course of an early Spring day with skier traffic somewhat interesting. It starts off as a semi-solid groomer, softens and gets skied in and becomes more granular on it’s way to becoming a mogul run. Today was one of those days. With skier traffic, conditions changed by the run. Personally, I’s rather ski it earlier as a groomer or later in the day as a softer bump run, not the transitional phase. Unfortunately for me I hit it midday during its transitional phase. Every run skied differently. Oh well, I guess that Spring Skiing in the East. Take it as it comes.
No matter what was served up, it presented some challenging skiing. There was definitely some very fun technical aspects of it. It wasn’t a plain ordinary groomer. Often times no two turns were the same. It definitely kept me on my toes.
I also skied Lower Skyelark which was open, but was still pretty solid. Had some great lines, but still too solid for me . Upper Skyelark> Lower Bitter had some nice early corn (ie. granular that was starting to corn up), making for a smooth cruise. That was fun for a few, but I enjoyed skiing SS more with a bunch of weekender friends. The forecast this week looks like cold temps at night and seasonable daytime temps. This should make for a nice corn cycle and minimal melting. Also, Superstar is open 10-5 starting Monday April 2 untill the rest of the season. The shop is open 9:15-6 from now for the rest of the ski season. Get up here if you can as we’re still one of the last resorts open in VT!
Jonathan Celauro started skiing when he was four and still hasn't quite figured it out yet. After college, he moved to Killington and now 16 yrs later, each comprised of 100+ day ski seasons, he's still trying to grasp the whole skiing concept. At this point he imagines his best option is to just go with the flow. "I still find myself dreaming of big mountain lines and deep powder snow." J.C. Shop Our Online Store
