Lots of people seem to have wisely taken a three day weekend

Again, seasonably cool, mostly sunny and 31* at 11:00

Busy up there today as it’s a nice day and that it is Good Friday so many are skiing Fri-Sat with family obligations on Sunday. The skiing once again was really, really nice. Skier traffic cut up the grooming some, but Superstar was still skiing nicely when I left at 12:45. It never got bumped, just became more granular. This weekend though with warmer temps forecasted there should be  some bumps and softening conditions on Lower Skyelark.  Don’t just limit your activities to skiing. As a matter of fact, I rode the lift with someone this afternoon who was excited to ski in the morning, golf the front nine at Green Mountain National golf course and go for a bike ride in the afternoon.  Now that’s what I call getting after it.

I just poked a look at the long range forecast and next week looks cool with a chance of rain/snow showers Mon-Weds. Cool temps even if it is a little showery will definitely keep the snow pack. How ironic? Winter never really started, now it doesn’t want to leave. I however have no problem with it. I’m sure the groomers of Skyelark>Bittersweet and Superstar will ski very well next week too. Speaking of weather, I stumbled across this from the Nation Weather Service which summarizes the historic march warmth of 2012. I found it pretty interesting, alright, actually downright depressing and shocking, but interesting.

A bunch of us skied in retro gear today. On snow antics are always fun!

Sure, it’s only Skyelark>Bittersweet and Superstar, but seriously they are skiing superbly. It snowed an inch or two overnight and that just helped to freshen things up as it all got groomed in making for a great surface.  So far for this being the fifth day of April, it has snowed every day of the month, except one. Not a bad start. Too bad we had that horrific March meltdown, taking most of the terrain otherwise we’d be in good shape. That’s not the case this year, but still what is open is really skiing fantastic. One thing that I did notice was that the bare sports were actually slowly disappearing. Groomers are covering them up with snow nightly. Also, the High Road section skied better today than it has all week as it looks like they farmed snow off Lower Skyelark and Upper Bitter to fill in that shallow spot. Two thumbs up right there fellas!

This weekends forecast for 2578′, which is approximately 200′ below the base of Superstar chair looks good. Slight chance of a snow shower Saturday morning and sunny and warm with highs in the upper 40′s on Sunday. Sounds perfect. Ski some groomers early, work the corn cycle and moguls later in the day. I hope you folks get a chance to get here and make some turns this weekend. The skiing has been great and the forecast is looking pretty sweet too!

Sun and clouds to overcast, slight breeze, 42* or as I can attest to, too cold for a zip up hoody and Orage knit gloves.

Another great early Spring ski day today on Superstar. The sun was out early, but clouded up as the day wore on. It seemed like peak ski time today was around noon. After that, steady cloud cover moved in which kind of stunted the corn progression. Sun makes for good corn, not just warming temps.

The last three days have been fantastic up here. Smooth groomers in the am, then corn as the sun rose and temps rose. The hill also has been crowded this week as it’s spring break for a lot of folks and today being no exception. I especially noticed more day ticket holders or “paper hangers” today more than the past couple days

Picture perfect early Spring day

A classic Spring ski today here. Just about a carbon copy of yesterday. Started mid-winter like then quickly softened to more corn like snow.

I skied between 11:30-1 and it was getting better every run. Superstar skied better than  Skyelark>Bittersweet.  Looks like there may be a slight chance of a shower tomorrow late afternoon, but besides that this week is setting up to be a great ski week. Sure, it’s only SS and Skyelark>Bittersweet, but they really are skiing well and will be this week.  Get there early for mid winter conditions. Stick around for an hour or so and ski up the corn.

What a great day out there today. Killington received two inches of snow overnight and it groomed in very nicely making for a mighty fine snow surface. If you didn’t know it was April 2, you would of thought it was a mid-winter day with the way Superstar and Skyelark>Bitter were skiing.  So very nice and smooth. Honestly, today was the best ski day here in about three weeks, since before the melt down began March 11.

To me, today represented a classic Killington early April Spring day. Fresh groomers, Blue skies and temps near 40. The forecast for the week looks like seasonal temps with sunshine. Get up there early for groomers and  midday for the corn.

There was also quite a few kids out there today as lots of schools have their Spring Break this week. I remember my parents taking us to Killington during Spring Breaks as a kid. Those were some good times indeed.
