Killington Snow Report December 7th- Mid Winter Powder!

Mid-Winter Like Skiing On Fresh Snow and Sun

Hi 23, Lo 0 (Fresh Snow, Blustery Sun)

Killington Snow Report

Killington Snow Report, With 5″ new inches on top of feet the previous week, The Beast is skiing mid winter.  Needles eye was perfect today as was Highline and Superstar. But the weekend will be the highlight of this momentous week. With the Snowdon Sex·tu·ple opening tomorrow as well as Bear Mountain the endless winter keeps on rolling. With so many trails and lifts opening, we expect the lift line traffic to thin out and for there to be more room for everyone. If you’re intrigued (or questioning) the update to the Snowdon Quad (now 6-pack) they will be having their christening ceremony in the morning. If you’re into toasting with Champagne at 9 AM maybe we’ll see you there- we’re just excited to enjoy a 4-minute lift ride and many more laps on Snowdon Mountain in our future.
We will hold our Season Tuner Demo Day on the 16th, join us to test the newest skis 2019.

Killington Snow Report: November Tree Skiing November 27, 2018

Lot’s of “unamed” tree skiing/ Killington Snow Report

Weather: Cold Enough For Snow, Lots Of Snow. 10″ at Opening bell, but felt like 16.

Killington Snow Report
Name The Trees!?

Well, today’s Killington Snow Report started with a very interesting drive into work today. Route 100 North was shut down (and still is) due to downed trees from this very heavy and thick snow we received overnight. The valley saw periods of R-like accumulation making for tough conditions on the roads. But Killington saw snow and lots of it. The mountain is saying 10″ fell but the locals are saying 16″. It’s thick that’s for sure but this thick snow is just what we need to build a base and keep the momentum going for months. And yes, we did get into the woods. Who would have thought that we’d be skiing bottomless tree runs in November! If the endless reports of substantial powder hasn’t made you contemplate calling sick to work for tomorrow and Friday well, the Snowdon Sixpack is expected to open by the weekend.  So here’s to powder, bubble chairs, and serious fun!

News From The Shop:

  • Want wider skis or snowboards for the weekend? Call us and reserve a pair! We will book up on the wider sticks and decks.
  • Lot’s of holiday savings on apparel and clothing in store
  • On-the spot mounts and tuning.
    • So long as we’re not seriously busy we can accomodate most on the spot service work.

P.S: Don’t Forget to Swing By Lookout Tavern For Free Happy Hour Wings and Daily Discounts on Menu Items.

Killington Snow Report November 23: Local Perspective

Post-Thanksgiving Burn Off

Weather: Hi 22, Lo 11 (Though -6 was reported this morning off River Road)

Words and Photo By Basin Ambassador Rob K

Wow! What a great day on the slopes for today’s Killington Snow Report. We were able to get some exciting turns in to work off that Thanksgiving dinner and stoke the adrenaline for tonight’s fireworks to kick off Women’s World Cup Race weekend! The 19 inches of fresh snow the last eight days combined with Killington’s incredible snowmaking since mid-October made for a fantastic snow surface.

It started at a cold 6 degrees but with golden sunshine, gators and a ride in the new K-1 cabins every third or fourth run it was very enjoyable. By late morning temps reach mid-teens. The snow-capped trees made the mountain resemble January instead of November.

Get here ASAP to enjoy terrific conditions and cheer the women racers on Superstar. Happy Thanksgiving Weekend!

Killington Snow Report November 21st

Killington Snow Report: Mid Season Conditions in November!

Weather: Hi 25, Lo -1

Killington Snow Report

Basin Sports GM, Jean got out with his family to make some turns today and reported back about on-mountain Killington Snow Report conditions. It’s pretty unreal how much coverage we have this early in the season. The Canyon quad is spinning offering access to the steeper terrain in Killington. In particular trails like Cascade and Downdraft were scary good- especially when skiing on a pair of Atomic Vantage 86Ti’s. The snowpack was good (though most skiing recently has been good, ha!) and was a mix of packed powder and fresh snow. It feels like it’s been snowing non-stop for the past few days and the mountain is showing it. Plus, if you haven’t heard the new Snowdon Bubble chair is expected to open before December! Whahooo!
Now, the best way to enjoy Thanksgiving and this holiday week, in general, is to one, eat lots of food, enjoy the company of your family and attend the Beast World Cup this weekend. We’re expecting a generous turnout, lots of great skiing and many sore throats and “headaches” the following day.

Notes From The Shop:

  • Lookout, Vermont Adaptive, 14th Star Brewing Fundraiser (Learn More)
  • Black Friday Sale: Select Brands 20% Off till November 26th
    • Arc’teryx
    • Helly Hansen

  • Ray Returns to the boot bench Mid December
    • We have four other licensed bootfitters available for fittings!

The State Of Skiing In Killington November Report

Will Killington make their World Cup Deadline? This is the State of Skiing in Killington, November Report

The State Of Skiing In Killington November Report-1

Winter started off with a bang this season with an opening day of October 19th. Since then The State Of Skiing In Killington has well really just gotten sweeter. We started as usual on the North Ridge and walked the catwalk both ways to access skiable terrain. Soon after we were skiing down and only walking back up. Confirmed for Wednesday too we’ll be skiing top to bottom as well. Which is great for me who’s been hesitant to get out there and get those turns. Maybe I’m spoiled, maybe I’m still daydreaming about summer. Either way skiable terrain is expanding rapidly with no real end to this momentum in site.

Turning over to the south side of the mountain, World Cup preparations have been moving along swimmingly. We were worried for a second there when it poured rain for two days. But that worry was quickly put to bed by 6-8″ inches of snow. Definitely 6 inches by the steps of Basin Sports, 8″ most likely up on the mountain. Since then temps have stayed cold and below freezing. I was going to say bitterly cold but if you were around this last December when it was -20 for two weeks its well hard to call anything bitterly cold anymore- we’re seasoned Vermonters after all. But I’m getting of subject here. On Superstar yesterday they began crushing snow. This is part of two reason- one, there’s a lot of snow already made on Superstar and it’s time to push it down and measure snow depths. Number two is more important in that today (Monday, November 12, 2018) marked inspection day by the FIS. Slopes had to be looking good to get the green light to host the Women’s World Cup this Thanksgiving.

So far so good and everything looks in tip-top shape. If you were planning on skiing this upcoming weekend be worry free about walking because we won’t have to do that anymore. Keep in mind that pretty much until Christmas that we’re still in early-season conditions and generally blue to black terrain. Remember the season gets better and better from here and that there’s a lot of early season hype so far. Now get off your phone or computer and go shred!

Opening Day October 19 2018 Killington Snow Report

What an awesome Day 1 at Killington, Vermont on October 19, 2018! Killington Snow Report

Killington Snow Report

Colder temperatures the last couple of days allowed what those snowmakers do best —  make lots of great snow.  We skied on the upper mountain – Rime and Reason trails – which were both covered well. Bumps formed on Upper East Fall in the afternoon and there were a few terrain features on Reason.

You couldn’t have asked for nicer weather for opening day.  Lots of sunshine and comfortable temperatures allowing the snowmakers to take a break.  The forecasters expect colder temps to return in a couple days.

Saturday, Killington will be open to the general public.  This is one of the early openings I will remember.
You do need to utilize the peak walkway to get to the snow and back to the K1 Gondola at end of your day.
It was a great start to the winter season, so get out there and see some of those familiar faces.

Killington Resort Snow Report for the week of Dec 11

What a week its been here in Killington Resort. After Sunday’s few inches of new snow, Monday was a fantastic day with comfortable temps and great snow. The highlight of the days was the season debut of Lower Ovation. Winter storm warnings also start to go into effect for Tuesday and Wednesday with 8-10″ forcasted  for Monday night and another 6-8″ forecasted for Tuesday night. Ole man winter was shaking the snow globe and we were happy!

Tuesday/Wednesday Powder Fest

Pow day #2. Wednesday Dec 13

Tuesday morning we awoke to near a foot of snow and it was our first legitimate powder day of the year for Killington Resort. Ropes were dropping and life was good. As good as Tuesday was, Wednesday was even better we have another burst of snow leaving us another 10″ for first chair on Wednesday. I didn’t ski today, but I heard it was fine skiing. Lots of wind-buffed and refreshed snow made for great skiing.

Looking ahead to the weekend

Terrain expansions continues here at Killington Resort as the Needles Eye/Northbrook areas come on line. Pico also makes its season debut tomorrow with 36 trails and only a few of them groomed. I’m sure there will be plenty of stashes to enjoy tomorrow morning there. Weather wise were looking at a classic New England winter pattern. Expect snow showers that could drop up to 4″ on Saturday and Sun for Sunday. There’s also talk of another major snow event for next week. We’ll just patiently wait and see how that pans out. Have a great weekend out there!
